Summary:
Heesook Choi is an Assistant Professor of Journalism in the Department of Communication at Mississippi State University. Choi earned her Doctorate in Journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism (2019). Choi was a first-generation college student. She worked as a newspaper journalist for five years, during which time she wrote for major Korean American community newspapers in the U.S.

Research interests:
Choi’s research involves media effects, journalism, political communication, new media, and race and media. Choi is broadly interested in audience selectivity in media consumption in the high-choice media environment, specifically related to political and civic effects of news media, political entertainment programming and new communication technologies. Her two primary programs of research are the impact of new technologies on newsrooms and the capacity of the Internet, more specifically social media, in interpersonal and mass communication to encourage engagement in civic and political life.
